Who is the face behind 24 Maple?!
My name is Connar McLeod and I am the face behind 24 Maple. Want to know more about me? Below is a quick little interview!
If you could describe yourself in a sentence, what would it be?
I am an adventurous and determined soul, full of energy and ready to build new relationships with everyone she meets.
Favorite Food: Easy! Costco pizza! I eat one slice of cheese pizza from Costco almost every Sunday and I always leave in disbelief at how delicious it is.
Cocktail: French 75 or a Bee’s Knees (gin, lemon, honey, yummm!)
Coffee Beverage: Lavender Latte
Cheese: BRIE! I once was watching a movie and pulled out a wheel of brie to snack on. By the time I finished watching, I had finished the wheel of brie too.
Clothing Store: Aritzia and Banana Republic
Musician: John Legend, and Chrissy Teigen, too! She can't sing, but she sure makes me laugh.
Sport: I love basketball, but I also cherish my memories watching Michigan State Football with my family and college friends, so this is a hard one.
What is your favorite recipe to bake?
Hmmm… this is a toss up. I would have to say my cheesecake filled red velvet cupcakes or tres leches cake. These are Fernando’s two favorite recipes and there is something to be said about baking with intention. I feel like I am able to pour a little bit of my heart into each batch and that makes them that much better.
Who do you look up to most?
I would have to say my Grandma Ruth. She has passed away, but she was my idol. Recently my mom found letters that I used to write to her as a little one and they just warmed my heart. My middle name is Ruth and it couldn’t be more fitting. She was the best baker, threw best showers, and had the warmest heart. I hope I can be half the woman she was and I always can feel her guiding me through my journey in life.
What is one of your favorite childhood memories?
I can’t say there is one memory, but something that will always be a huge piece of me was growing up on a small inland lake in Southwest Michigan. I have so many memories from my dad doing cannonballs off the top deck just to see how wet he could get my mom, to spending countless hours trying to see how big we could make our spray while waterskiing, and the endless diving contests my sisters and I would host. Those memories are some of the best.
What is the number one tip you give all your couples?
HIRE A SECOND SHOOTER. You spend so much time, money and energy planning the perfect wedding day and it flies by faster than you will ever imagine. There are so many moments that you want to capture and I wish one photographer could do it all, but unfortunately, we humans can’t be two places at one.
If you could go anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you go?
This is one of those questions where my answer is constantly changing. However, I have always said, if I found out I was given one week to live, I would spend that final week in Greece. I have never been, but I would love to float in Mediterranean Sea, explore Athens, ride a donkey through Santorini and eat allllll the olives.
What is your personal mantra?
I grew up with a constant reminder to always be “my own self, at my very best, all the time.” This simple phrase has given me an appreciation for all moments in life, even the hardest. Each day I wake up and try to be better than I was yesterday, this means learning from the challenges you face, and cherishing your accomplishments. Each day I strive to aspire nobly, adventure daringly, and serve humbly in hopes that it will make me the best version of myself.
If you had a weekend with no responsibilities & no budget, what would you do?
Fernando and I would hop on the Explore page on Kayak and see what deals we could find for a quick weekend trip. We would let the destination decide what we would pack and would make our sleeping arrangements when we land. We have a habit of not planning ahead on trips like this. Fernando doesn’t like to feel stuck in one place and I love to take a moment to step back from my life of planning and just go with the flow when I’m on vacation. After all, vacation’s purpose is to cut yourself a break, right?
What moment in a wedding is your favorite?
It doesn’t matter if I have known you a matter of hours or for a lifetime, every time the bride walks down the aisle and the groom looks up at her, I cry. This moment is so special. It is the moment that it becomes real… You really are marrying the love of your life, and the emotion in that exact moment is just so raw, I melt.
